Crimsafe Security Screens: Features, Testing and Warranty

Crimsafe security screens stand apart from standard screens through patented mesh technology, a mechanical clamping system, and independently verified test results. This guide explains how they work, what each test measures, and what the 10-year warranty covers. Brisbane homeowners can then buy with confidence.

What Makes Crimsafe Security Screens Different

Most security screens look similar from a distance. The difference lies in the engineering beneath the surface. That means the mesh grade, how it connects to the frame, and how the system performs under real attack conditions.

Crimsafe security screens rely on three components: a high-tensile stainless steel mesh, a reinforced aluminium frame, and the patented Screw-Clamp™ system. Importantly, each element addresses a failure point that standard screens and diamond-grille products cannot match.

Standard screens typically use a plastic wedge to hold the mesh against the frame. Under impact, the force concentrates at the point of contact. The wedge releases, the mesh pops out, and the screen fails. Crimsafe eliminates this by mechanically clamping the mesh into the frame. Force distributes across the entire perimeter and back into the building structure, rather than concentrating at one point.

Crimsafe Security Screens Brisbane: The Screw-Clamp System Explained

The Screw-Clamp™ is the most important piece of engineering in a Crimsafe security screen. Specifically, it is a patented clamping bar that screws the mesh firmly into a channel in the frame. Unlike plastic-wedge systems, the mesh cannot be pulled or pushed out of the frame without destroying the screen itself.

When a screen takes an impact — a kick, shoulder charge, or jemmy attempt — the force travels through the mesh, along the clamp and frame, then into the wall behind it. As a result, the whole building absorbs the load rather than one small fixing point. This is why Crimsafe performs so differently from lighter alternatives under independent testing.

Crimsafe Ultimate doubles the number of screws fastening the mesh to the frame compared to the Regular model. Additionally, it includes a clip-on cover that conceals the screw line. This improves aesthetics and corrosion resistance, and makes the frame more resistant to lever attacks.

The Mesh: 0.9mm 304-Grade Stainless Steel

The mesh is Tensile-Tuff® stainless steel. It uses 0.9mm diameter 304 structural-grade wire, woven tightly so each strand supports those around it. At 0.9mm, Crimsafe mesh is 26.5% thicker in cross-section than the 0.8mm wire used in competing products. That additional thickness significantly improves impact absorption at high-tensile loads.

The aperture between strands measures 1.5mm x 1.5mm. That is small enough to stop flies and mosquitoes, yet open enough to maintain visibility and natural airflow. Furthermore, the mesh is black. This minimises glare and keeps your view through the screen clear from inside.

Beyond security performance, the mesh also acts as a solar filter well-suited to Brisbane’s climate. Independent testing shows Crimsafe can reduce solar heat gain by up to 53%, reducing the load on air conditioning during summer afternoons. Similarly, the mesh achieves 99% insect prevention. That is especially valuable in Brisbane’s warm months when doors and windows stay open into the evening.

How Crimsafe Security Screens Are Tested

This is where Crimsafe separates itself most clearly from competitor products. In contrast to marketing claims, testing is independent and rigorous. Results are verified against named standards and published — not based on internal quality checks.

Dynamic Impact Test (AS5039.3:2023)

This test simulates a human body impact against the screen. The Australian Standard requires a screen to withstand five single impacts of 200 joules each. Crimsafe significantly exceeds this benchmark. For example, Crimsafe Regular withstands single impacts of 550 joules — 2.75 times the standard requirement. Crimsafe Ultimate reaches 750 joules. The Heavy-Duty model reaches 1,200 joules.

Knife Shear Test

A trimming knife is pulled along the mesh three times with up to 350N of force and 150N of downward pressure. The run covers 250mm. To pass, the mesh must hold against continuous penetration for more than 150mm. Crimsafe passes across all models. The tight woven structure means each strand supports those around it, so the knife cannot open a clean cut line.

Lever Attack Test

A large screwdriver applies up to 450N of rotational force for 20 seconds. It targets every locking, hinging, and fastening point. The screen must remain locked, and the intruder must not force any gap beyond 15mm. Crimsafe passes across all models. Moreover, the Ultimate and iQ tiers feature lever-defiant designs that further resist this specific attack vector.

Pull Test

This test assesses whether the mesh can be pulled from the frame by simulating an intruder gripping the edges and pulling outward. Because of the Screw-Clamp™ system, this is not possible without destroying the screen itself. In practice, separating the mesh from the frame requires destroying the clamping bar first. That takes tools, sustained force, and time — none of which a break-in attempt allows.

European RC2 Test (EN1627:2011)

The RC2 test is considerably more rigorous than Australian Standards. It involves 12 static stress tests applying 3kN at various points and 7 impact tests using a 50kg weight dropped from 450mm. Sustained manual tool attacks at 8 locations are also included. Notably, Crimsafe iQ is the only mesh security screen door in Australia to have passed this test. That makes it the strongest independently verified option available in Brisbane.

Crimsafe Security Screen Models: Which Tier Is Right for You

Crimsafe is available across four specification levels. Each builds on the previous with additional engineering for higher-risk openings.

The Regular model delivers proven Screw-Clamp™ performance and Tensile-Tuff® mesh in an affordable, refined package. Bedroom and living area windows are where it performs best, combining security with insect control.

Moving up the range, the Classic tier offers the same core technology with updated aesthetics and carbon-fibre reinforced Screw-Clamp™ components. Homeowners who want a current design without compromising on security will find it the right fit.

Crimsafe Ultimate doubles the screw count and adds a concealed cover over the clamp line. The frame also uses 304 structural-grade mesh, delivering up to 40% greater strength than the Regular model. As a result, it suits main entry doors, street-facing sliding doors, and any opening where forced entry is the primary concern.

At the top of the range, Crimsafe iQ adds heavy-duty hinges, enhanced multi-point locking, and a reinforced frame. Crucially, this is the only model to have passed the European RC2 test. For Brisbane homes where the front door is the priority opening, our Crimsafe iQ represents the strongest available solution. The Crimsafe 10-Year Warranty

Crimsafe security screens carry a 10-year product warranty. Specifically, this covers the mesh, frame, and Screw-Clamp™ components. Protection extends to manufacturing defects and premature failure under normal use. Terms and conditions apply — your installer will hand over the full warranty documentation when the job is complete.

Crimsafe as the manufacturer backs the product warranty. This sits separately from the workmanship guarantee your installer provides. At Complete Blinds Brisbane, our own quality guarantee covers every installation. If anything is not right with the fit, alignment, or operation, we return and resolve it. That is what in-house installation means in practice.

Corrosion resistance is also independently tested. Crimsafe screens passed 3,000 hours in the AS2331 salt spray test. For context, 1,000 hours in that test simulates 10 years of harsh weathering. Therefore, for Brisbane homeowners in bayside suburbs like Redcliffe, Cleveland, or Wynnum, that result matters directly to long-term performance.

Additional Ratings: Bushfire, Cyclone, and Ember Protection

Brisbane’s surrounding regions include bushfire-prone and cyclone-risk areas. Fortunately, Crimsafe security screens carry ratings relevant to both.

The 1.5mm x 1.5mm aperture prevents ember penetration. This qualifies Crimsafe for use across all bushfire attack levels, including BAL-FZ. Additionally, when tested to AS3959-2009, Crimsafe reduces radiant heat intensity by up to 59% — a figure independently verified by CSIRO. For cyclone-rated areas across South East Queensland, heavy-duty models meet AS1170.2:2011. They withstand debris impacts at wind speeds up to 44 metres per second.

These ratings matter significantly for Brisbane homeowners with properties near the D’Aguilar Range, Moreton Bay islands, and coastal areas classified for elevated weather risk.

Caring for Your Crimsafe Security Screens

Crimsafe mesh works like an air conditioning filter. It traps fine particles, dust, and pollutants over time. Periodic cleaning is essential to maintain performance and appearance.

Start by rinsing with fresh water regularly. In bayside and coastal Brisbane suburbs, more frequent rinsing removes salt build-up before it affects the mesh and frame finish. For a thorough clean, use a soft brush with mild soapy water. Scrub gently along the mesh, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive pads, or high-pressure washing. All of these damage the mesh surface or frame finish over time.

Beyond cleaning, check hinges and locking points annually. Crimsafe doors should operate smoothly without stiffness or misalignment. If anything feels off, address it early. Proper operation is part of maintaining the screen’s security performance, not just its appearance.
